DEPENDENCE ON HOLY SPIRIT
Dependence on Holy Spirit
THE HOLY SPIRIT IS NEEDED IN OUR LIFE TO MAKE THE TRANSFORMATION WITHIN
SURRENDER TO HOLY SPIRIT IS NEEDED
WHY?
BECAUSE THE FRUIT OF THE HOLY SPIRIT INCLUDES THIS
“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit.”
(Galatians 5:16-25)
Jesus moves through by the power of his indwelling Holy Spirit. This is the only path to peace, reconciliation and blossoming God’s Goodness on Earth. The HOLY SPIRIT IS NEEDED TO DO THIS.
In John 14:16-17, Jesus promised that he would send his Holy Spirit to live in all of his followers. As you surrender to God invite the Holy Spirit to lead you, you will come to know how fruitful God’s ways are for your life.
You can be filled with the Holy Spirit more and more. As you embrace deep healing, deliverance and a life of obedience to the LORD, the Holy Spirit will move through you. You will become a vessel for God’s Glory.
There are many things that the Holy Spirit can do for you and through you.
I want to share a few of those things here.
The Holy Spirit emboldens!!
James 1:5 – “If any of you is deficient in wisdom, let him ask of the giving God [Who gives] to everyone liberally and ungrudgingly, without reproaching or faultfinding, and it will be given him.”
Romans 8:26-27 – So too the [Holy] Spirit comes to our aid and bears us up in our weakness; for we do not know what prayer to offer nor how to offer it worthily as we ought, but the Spirit Himself goes to meet our supplication and pleads in our behalf with unspeakable yearnings and groanings too deep for utterance. And He Who searches the hearts of men knows what is in the mind of the [Holy] Spirit [what His intent is], because the Spirit intercedes and pleads [before God] in behalf of the saints according to and in harmony with God’s will.
The Holy Spirit is your HELPER.
When you are feeling powerless or tired or like you are failing in any area of your life, connect to the Holy Spirit. You are safe to believe in His presence. The Holy Spirit will draw near to you as you draw near to him. Start each day knowing that the Holy Spirit is there to help you. Go to Him for everything, small and big. He is the power that sustains, energizes, and keeps you on a holy path. Invite Him to direct your steps ~ all your steps each and every day. “Nevertheless, I tell you the truth: it is to your advantage that I go away, for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you. But if I go, I will send him to you.” (John 16:7)
The Holy Spirit is your SANCTIFIER. “Sanctified” means to be set apart as sacred. Essentially, it’s the purification of sin and spiritually maturing to become more Christlike. This is an important process for you as a believer--leaving behind the old you and becoming a new person in Christ. This is a daily process. It takes time. The Holy Spirit wants to help you in this process of sanctification: to die to your old self and be all that God created you to be; to be free from the entanglement of sin and Satan and to live victoriously. “But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God,” (1 Corinthians 6:11)
The Holy Spirit makes you more CHRIST LIKE. Moses experienced God’s glory on the mountaintop and we have communion with Him every day! Theologian Warren Wiersbe writes, “Moses reflected the glory of God, and you and I may radiate the glory of God. When we meditate on God’s Word and in it see God’s Son, then the Spirit transforms us! We become more like the Lord Jesus Christ as we grow ‘from glory to glory.” Our goal is Christlikeness and this takes place through the power of the Holy Spirit. “And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.” (2 Corinthians 3:18)
The Holy Spirit helps you do the FATHER’S WILL. Throughout the New Testament we see the Holy Spirit direct people to do the will of God. He helps us tune into the voice of the Father and, in faith, do what we believe He is calling us to. Ask the Spirit to show you what the Father’s will would be for you today and ask Him to empower you to carry it out!T hen the Spirit said to Philip, ‘Go up and join this chariot,’" (Acts 8:29)
The Holy Spirit gifts you for MINISTRY. The Holy Spirit imparts to believers gifts that are needed in the Church. Nobody receives all gifts but they are distributed among the Body of Christ, each person receiving different gifts. The gift(s) that you receive will empower you for the calling God has placed on your life. You can embrace what God has put inside of you, and be His instrument for Kingdom purpose! “There are different kinds of spiritual gifts, but the same Spirit is the source of them all. There are different kinds of service, but we serve the same Lord. God works in different ways, but it is the same God who does the work in all of us. A spiritual gift is given to each of us so we can help each other. To one person the Spirit gives the ability to give wise advice; to another the same Spirit gives a message of special knowledge. The same Spirit gives great faith to another, and to someone else the one Spirit gives the gift of healing. He gives one person the power to perform miracles, and another the ability to prophesy. He gives someone else the ability to discern whether a message is from the Spirit of God or from another spirit. Still another person is given the ability to speak in unknown languages, while another is given the ability to interpret what is being said. It is the one and only Spirit who distributes all these gifts. He alone decides which gift each person should have,”
(1 Corinthians 12:4-11)
The Holy Spirit imparts LOVE. We can discover God’s love more and more in our suffering. As we endure trials, God’s love is poured out into us through the Spirit and it’s this empowerment that carries you and I through the hard seasons. When you are doubting this love in your difficulty, remember that the Spirit pours it into your heart. “Not only that, but we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not put us to shame, because God's love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us,”
(Romans 5:3-5)
The Holy Spirit gives you HOPE. The Holy Spirit teaches us how to Hope as God hopes. This is only possible in abundance through the power of the Holy Spirit. And it’s a kind of hope that can carry people through all trials and tribulations. Hope is fuel for the soul. We can tap into this hope by His power and experience a peace and hopefulness that goes beyond human understanding. Even when it seems impossible to be hopeful, by the power of the Holy Spirit we can stand in this supernatural hope. ~ “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope,” (Romans 15:13)
The Holy Spirit teaches and INSTRUCTS. The Holy Spirit can illuminate what you are reading in the Word of God and can help you recall what you’ve read in Scripture. He brings to your mind heavenly perspective, understanding and truth. Have you ever had one of those moments when you were in a situation and a Scripture verse you read or memorized years ago popped into your head, encouraging you in that moment? That was the Holy Spirit reminding you of what you had been taught. He empowers you with understanding and the ability to recall important verses that apply to your life. ~ “But the Helper, the Holy Spirit whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you.” (John 14:26)
The Holy Spirit can guide PRAYERS. Sometimes I have no words to describe what I want to pray for, or something I don’t know what I need to pray for. Or I have so much to say that I’m not sure where to start. Have you ever experienced that? Sometimes we don’t have to have the right words--the Holy Spirit knows just what to say. Lean into Him and allow Him to express to the Father what needs to be said. You can start by saying, “Holy Spirit, help me pray!” Relinquish trying to pray and make things up on your own as you pray. Instead, practice trusting that your time spent in the sacred place with God will break you out of prayerlessness and into powerful Holy Spirit led prayer. ~ “Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words,” (Romans 8:26)
The Holy Spirit uses you for EVANGELISM. Telling others about Jesus and making disciples is our most important role on this earth. It’s literally the last thing Jesus said before he ascended into heaven! Having the Holy Spirit with us means having power to be a witness. To tell people about what Jesus did for them on the cross and how he conquered death and reigns victoriously! Don’t shy away from being an advocate for Christ; it’s what you are called to do. Allow the Spirit to empower you for the Kingdom purpose of making disciples!
