Jesus Is Protection

“YOU ARE MY PROTECTOR, JESUS”

Jesus Is Protection

Have you ever been oppressed by a heaviness of defeat that it convinced you that you would never be set free? That you would never walk in victory? That there is no more hope for you…

Perhaps painful experiences, abuse, neglect, betrayal, or trauma taught you that you had to protect yourself. Maybe you became hyper-vigilant, emotionally guarded, independent, or withdrawn. You learned to survive, but not really ever live fully!

If this is your story, I want you to know that you are not alone. It was mine too.

For many years, I searched for healing apart from Jesus Christ. I genuinely wanted freedom, but I was looking for it in the wrong places. Although some practices appeared to offer temporary relief, they could never provide the deep security, lasting peace, and true healing that my heart longed for.

Everything changed when I surrendered my life to Jesus Christ.

He became not only my Lord and Savior, but also my Healer, my Defender, and my Protector.

As I began walking with Him, He gently showed me that I no longer had to carry the exhausting responsibility of protecting myself. He invited me to place my trust in Him instead.

Before Christ, I Was My Own Protector

When we have experienced relational trauma, it is natural to develop protective strategies. We build emotional walls. We become fiercely independent. We try to control every situation so we will never be hurt again.

For me, before coming to Christ, I believed I needed to become stronger in myself. During my years in the New Age, I pursued what was described as the "divine inner masculine," believing I needed to cultivate greater strength, control, and self-protection.

But after encountering Jesus, I willingly surrendered those beliefs.

I discovered something far better.

Jesus Himself became my Protector.

Rather than teaching me to rely on my own strength, He taught me to rest in His strength.

The Lord Is Your Fortress

One of my favorite passages of Scripture is Psalm 18:1–3:

"I love You, O Lord, my strength. The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer; my God, my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold. I call upon the Lord, who is worthy to be praised, and I am saved from my enemies."

Notice how David describes God.

He is our:

  • Strength

  • Rock

  • Fortress

  • Deliverer

  • Refuge

  • Shield

  • Salvation

  • Stronghold

These are descriptions speaks of protection.

God never intended His children to carry the burden of being their own savior or protector. He invites us to find safety in Him.

Understanding the Real Battle

Many people who have survived trauma continue living as though every person is a potential threat. While wisdom and healthy boundaries are important, Scripture reminds us that our greatest battle is not against people.

Ephesians 6:12 tells us:

"For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places."

This verse helps us understand that behind the brokenness in our world is a spiritual battle.

This does not mean every difficult situation is caused by direct spiritual attack, nor does it remove personal responsibility from those who choose to harm others. Rather, it reminds us that evil is ultimately rooted in a fallen world, and our deepest hope is found in Christ, who has conquered sin and death.

Jesus equips believers to stand firm in Him. As we grow in our relationship with Him, we learn to walk in the authority He gives, wearing the full armor of God and relying on His strength rather than our own.

Healing Means SLOWLY Learning to Trust Again

One of the greatest wounds trauma leaves behind is a loss of trust.

Many women say:

"I don't trust anyone."

"I have to do everything myself."

"I always have to be prepared."

"I can never let my guard down."

These beliefs often develop because they once helped us survive.

But healing with Jesus is different.

Jesus patiently teaches us that we no longer have to live in survival mode.

As we spend time with Him, we begin to experience His faithfulness. Little by little, He rebuilds our ability to trust—not blindly in people, but securely in Him first.

As our confidence in Christ grows, we become better able to discern healthy relationships, establish wise boundaries, and love others without living in constant fear.

You No Longer Have to Carry the Weight

One of the greatest miracles Jesus has done in my own life was lifting the heavy weight of defeat that I carried for so many years.

He replaced fear with peace.

He replaced striving with surrender.

He replaced self-protection with His loving protection.

This transformation did not happen overnight, but as I continued walking with Him, He faithfully renewed my mind, healed my heart, and established my life on a new foundation.

If He has done this for me, I believe He can do it for you.

No matter what your past holds, Jesus invites you to come to Him.

He is your Rock.

He is your Fortress.

He is your Deliverer.

He is your Protector.

Reflection Questions

Take a few moments with the Lord and prayerfully consider these questions:

  • In what ways have I spent my life trying to protect myself?

  • What survival strategies have I relied on instead of trusting God?

  • What would it look like to invite Jesus to become my Protector today?

  • Is there one area of my life where I need to surrender fear and place my trust in Him?

Ask the Holy Spirit to gently reveal what He wants you to know, and write down what comes to your heart as you spend time with Him.

Prayer

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for sending Jesus to save me, heal me, and lead me into a new way of living. I confess that I have often relied on my own strength and my own efforts to protect myself. Today, I choose to place my trust in You.

Jesus, thank You for being my Rock, my Fortress, my Deliverer, and my Protector. Teach me to rest in Your love instead of living in fear. Heal the places in my heart that still believe I must carry every burden alone.

Help me grow in faith, walk in the security of Your presence, and trust that You are watching over me each day. Thank You that I no longer have to live in defeat because You have overcome the world.

In Jesus' name, Amen.
